Smith, who was re-elected for her second four-year term on the Board, has been an active judge in women’s artistic gymnastics for the past 47 years, and a Brevet judge since 1989. She has been the Canadian Head Judge since 2013 and was the Judge Liaison with the Organizing Committee for the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. A trained educator with a Ph.D in the area of exercise science, bone density, and endocrine physiology, Smith taught at the University level for many years before moving into administration, where prior to her retirement in 2013, she was the Executive Director of Student Services at the University of Manitoba.
“I am delighted to accept the position of Chair of the GCG Board and look forward to working with the members of the Board, the GCG staff, our members across Canada and our partners in sport. It is my vision that this team of dedicated employees and volunteers will provide the support and the leadership to assist Gymnastics Canada in meeting our shared goals of sport development and sport excellence through healthy and safe gymnastics experiences for all participants,” said Smith.
Also re-elected to the board was Ms. Barb Bergeron of Ottawa, ON. She joins newly elected members Mr. Nick Lehnihan of Dartmouth, NS and Ms. Kimberly Shore of Calgary, AB on their four-year mandate on the board.
