Karl Balisch New Director, Corporate Services & Development for Gymnastics Canada

Karl has occupied several roles with GCG over the years; first as the Program Director – Men’s Artistic Gymnastics from 2000 to 2005, and then as Program Director – Artistic Gymnastics from 2013 to present. In between those two assignments, Karl was the Marketing Director with Opera Lyra Ottawa from 2005 to 2008, and then the General Manager of Tumblers Gymnastics in Ottawa from 2008 to 2013.

“Karl has demonstrated his ability to perform in a leadership role in his previous positions,” stated Peter Nicol, President/CEO of Gymnastics Canada (GCG). “His business experience, strategic thinking, and proven ability to lead through change, combined with his passion for the sport of gymnastics, make him the right person to help implement Gymnastics Canada’s strategic plan and deliver on the organization’s mission to build the foundation, create champions, and inspire the nation through our sport.”

As a result of an organizational structure review that was conducted in the fall of 2016 to support the implementation of the 2017-2020 GCG Strategic Plan, two senior management positions have been created to replace the former Chief Technical Officer and Chief Operating Officer roles. The renaming of these two senior management positions to High Performance Director and Director, Corporate Services and Development, highlight the continued focus and commitment of GCG on our four 2017-2020 strategic goals of: international success, sport development, organizational excellence, and financial management. In his new role, Karl will be responsible for the overall administration and day-to-day operations of the federation. He will also provide oversite to the business development, financial management, communications and marketing, event hosting, sport development, and education development components of the federation.

There will be a transition period into this new role as Karl continues to provide leadership and oversight to the artistic gymnastics program until such time as replacements for the management of these programs have been found.
