During the women’s individual trampoline finals, Sophiane Méthot (Virtuose Centre Acrobatique, QC) captured the bronze medal while Sam Smith finished in 5th place. Méthot executed beautifully in a close competition and landed firmly on the podium in the end.
In men’s synchronised trampoline competition, it was Jérémy Chartier (Virtuose Centre Acrobatique, QC) and Rémi Aubin (École les Dynamix, QC) who captured the 3rd place finish and brought home the bronze medal. Chartier, a member of the Canadian National Team since 2015, also finished in 4th place during the men’s individual trampoline event.
Both the men and women finished strong during the double-mini trampoline competition, with siblings Gavin and Kristina Dodd (Kamloops Gymnastics, BC) capturing 3rd and 5th place, respectively. Alongside Gavin, Mitchel Pedersen (Calgary Gymnastics Centre, AB) competed in the men’s DMT finals, finishing in 8th place. Pedersen also finished in 7th place in the men’s tumbling event.
“I was excited to compete in Portugal and felt I was prepared and had worked hard in training to compete at my best. I was most proud in my consistency in the competition as well as the training while in Portugal and was happy to make finals and come home with a bronze medal,” shared Gavin Dodd following the competition. “My favourite part of the competition was once again being able to compete with fellow athletes from Canada as well as athletes from all over the world in a great venue.”
Canadian gymnasts participating in the age group competition also finished strong in Portugal with 1st place team finishes in the individual trampoline 15-16 girls, double-mini trampoline 17+ girls, double-mini trampoline 17+ boys, and tumbling 17+ boys categories.
