World Gym for Life Challenge

The World Gym for Life Challenge is an international contest for gymnastics groups that is held every four years.

Participation is for everybody, regardless of gender, age, race, religion, culture, ability, or social standing. Performances are a maximum of five minutes, may incorporate any gymnastic element; with or without apparatus, and may be accompanied by music.

The objectives of the World Gym for Life Challenge include:

  • Provide a second FIG event for gymnastic groups;
  • Offer gymnastic groups the opportunity to participate in a contest and have their performance evaluated;
  • Create an interesting and exciting event in gymnastics for the participants and the audience;
  • Offer interesting workshops for gymnasts and coaches.

The World Gym for Life Challenge programme includes the following:

  • An opening ceremony
  • The contest
  • The Gym for Life gala
  • Workshops
  • Show performances
  • A closing ceremony

Fast facts:

  • Groups can choose to participate in ONE of the following categories, which are divided by type of performance and size:
    • Gymnastics & dance, small group (20 or less gymnasts);
    • Gymnastics & dance, large group (21 or more gymnasts);
    • Gymnastics on, or with large apparatus, small group (20 or less gymnasts);
    • Gymnastics on, or with large apparatus, large group (21 or more gymnast).
  • All participating groups are awarded either a gold, silver, or bronze medal;
  • Clubs having earned gold in the qualifying round, participate in an ultimate Gym for Life Gala, where a “World Club Champion” is crowned;
  • The trophy awarded at this event is named after current FIG President Prof. Bruno Grandi;
  • The 2013 World Gym for Life Challenge in Cape Town (RSA) was the first to be held outside Europe.
