Transfer of Qualifications – “Lifelong Learning”
Lifelong learning is the ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated pursuit of knowledge – and is one of the underlying philosophies of the NCCP.
Gymnastics Canada, and our provincial/territorial member organizations are excited to announce that in June 2021, coaches with Levels-NCCP qualifications in artistic gymnastics will undergo a transfer of their qualifications from the Levels NCCP to our new NCCP programming which places a renewed focus on lifelong learning.
Coaches with trampoline and rhythmic Levels-NCCP qualifications will transfer at a later date.
WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN?
Basically, what if all the hard work you’ve put into being the best coach you can be was finally officially recognized?
With the upcoming transfer of your artistic gymnastics coaching qualifications to our new NCCP programs, it will be.
At Gymnastics Canada and our provincial/territorial member associations, we’ve been working hard over the last several years to develop leading-edge coach education programs that will prepare you to be the best coach you can possibly be for your athletes. Our updated courses ensure coaches have an up-to-date knowledge base, gain practical experience through evaluation, and demonstrate their coaching competency.
Recognizing your professional development activities is a key piece of our new programs, and as a result, when you are given your new artistic gymnastics coaching status, you will finally see your professional development activities recognized on your coaching transcript.
To start this process, we need you to ensure that your coaching transcript reflects all of the education you’ve invested in to date. To do that, just visit https://thelocker.coach.ca. If there is anything missing, please get in touch with your provincial coaching representative BEFORE May 15th to get it fixed.
Then, on June 1st, Gymnastics Canada will move all of your completed artistic gymnastics education over to its comparable program in the new framework.
To see what qualifications you will have when this transition is complete, please click here. These qualifications will be identified as “Transferred” on your Locker transcript.
Afterwards, your professional development activities will be recognized on your coaching transcript and you’ll start to earn professional development points that will go towards maintaining your coaching status in artistic gymnastics.
Imagine stepping into your gym to coach, knowing that you’re equipped to give your very best to your athletes.
Imagine all of the time you’ve invested in being a coach, being formally recognized.
Our new programs are designed to recognize your commitment to coaching, and to your athletes.
MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION
With lifelong learning being a core value of the NCCP, with your new qualifications, there is an expectation that you continue to invest in your coach education and thereby accumulate Professional Development (PD) points towards maintaining your certified status.
PD points can be earned through a multitude of activities that coaches already participate in, including (but not limited to): national and provincial sport organization conferences and workshops, eLearning modules, NCCP workshops, coach mentorship programs, judging, facilitating courses, working on a committee, and active coaching.
In most cases you are already earning your required PD points — Maintenance of Certification is simply the introduction of tracking these points and recognizing you for your commitment to lifelong learning.
In the last 12 months have you:
- Attended an NCCP workshop?
- Taken an NCCP eLearning module (like Making Head Way)?
- Attended an annual event that impacted your coaching (like a provincial conference, symposium, or summit)?
- Actively coached a team or individual?
- Facilitated a course or workshop?
- Attended a non-NCCP coaching event (like a training camp)?
- Been involved in a mentorship program?
- Been involved in a working group or attended a committee meeting?
- Attended a webinar or guest coach lecture hosted by an NSO or PTSO?
If you answered yes to any of the above – YOU’RE ALREADY EARNING PD POINTS!
If you still have questions or concerns about Maintenance of Certification – we want to hear them! Feel free to visit:http://www.coach.ca/maintenance-of-certification-s16745 where you’ll find loads of PD opportunities, information about how to read your PD requirements in the Locker, and a handy Frequently Asked Questions section. If that doesn’t cover it – please let us know! You can contact us at coaching@gymcan.org

MAKE ETHICAL DECISIONS (MED)
The NCCP Make Ethical Decisions (MED) module is a cornerstone of the NCCP and equips coaches to handle challenging ethical situations with confidence and surety. It helps coaches identify the legal, ethical, and moral implications of difficult situations that present themselves and is a requirement to have completed to maintain your certification.
Completed Make Ethical Decisions (MED) training and/or the online evaluation within five years of your transfer of qualifications is required to maintain your status. As such:
- Coaches who are granted “Trained Transferred” status must complete, at a minimum, training in MED; or
- Coaches who are granted “Certified Transferred” status must complete the MED online evaluation
NOTE: If you have taken the Gymnastics Foundations Theory course, MED training is delivered within the course and you will only be required to complete the online evaluation if you require certified status.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have already taken MED training, and/or passed the online evaluation, you are not required to take it again.
