Olsen, who took home a silver medal from the vault finals at the 2018 World Championships, completed a Yurchenko double-twisting vault for her first run down the runway, scoring a 14.600. She landed her second vault, a Cheng, with her knees slightly bent, and scored a 14.866 for an average score of 14.733. Biles won the gold with an average score of 15.399. Carey took silver with an average score of 14.833, despite a huge step out of bounds, while Downie captured bronze with an average score of 14.816.
“Today went really good. I had a few little mistakes, but I’m just going to work harder for next time. It was a great opportunity to compete with the best in the world, and it was a huge blessing to compete for Canada with my teammates supporting me,” said Olsen who also competes in the NCAA with the University of Alabama. “Now I’ll just keep working on perfecting my vaults, and working on some of the other events, and also finishing my schoolwork!”
The World Championships will wrap-up tomorrow with Ana Padurariu of Whitby, ON competing in the beam finals. Ellie Black of Halifax, NS had also qualified for the beam finals, but was forced to withdraw due to the injury she sustained to her ankle during the all-around competition on Thursday.
