Uchida had top scores with every apparatus except hoop where she dropped her apparatus and stepped out of bounds, dropping her down into second place. Her score of 19.100 in ball is the top score of the competition so far. Garcia had the top score in hoop and was second in every other apparatus. Uchida’s Jusco RG teammate Sophie Crane finished in third.
“I’m happy that I was able to finish in first place after two days of competition,” said Garcia who represented Canada at the Youth Olympic Games last summer and is a first-year senior. “I’m excited for the finals, and I know that there are still four routines left and anything can happen. I’m hoping to really focus and do even better in the finals.”
Vivier and Tatiana Cocsanova from Montreal, QC traded for top spot across the four apparatus in the junior HP category with both taking two each to sit first and second heading into the finals.
“The competition went pretty well for me today,” said Vivier who took the all-around title at the 2019 Elite Canada competition in February. “I had to make a few saves in ribbon, and in clubs I made a mistake but that’s for tomorrow for me to show that I can come back from that. We changed my ball and ribbon routines since Elite Canada, so those apparatus were the two routines I was trying to do well on here.”
The novice competition wrapped up with Adel Karasik from Toronto, ON taking the all-around (AA) title for the second year in a row. She also took gold in rope and clubs, and bronze in the free routine. Julia Leiderdrut took silver in the AA, gold in ball, and silver in free and clubs. Karina Kamentsky from Toronto captured bronze in the AA, and bronze in rope. Cao Si Yuan from Montreal took gold in the free routine and finished fourth in the AA.
In the Senior Open competition, it was Julia Ivensky from Quebec who won the gold medal in the AA as well as gold in hoop, silver in clubs, and bronze in ball. Nicole Stolys from Ontario captured AA silver, while Halle Moger from BC, and Alexandra Yarema from Manitoba tied for bronze. Moger also won gold in clubs, while Yarema captured silver in ribbon.
The Junior Open competition saw Margaret Kuts from BC win gold in the AA competition as well as gold in clubs, and bronze in rope. Julia Lianos from Ontario took AA silver, while Pari Goyal from BC captured bronze.
The competition wraps up Sunday with the finals in the Junior and Senior HP individual categories, and for the FIG Junior and Senior Groups.
