Strong results for Uchida & Crane at 2019 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Pesaro

Uchida’s top score came with her new ball routine where she scored 18,050 – her first score in the 18s on the international stage. She then scored a 17,700 in hoop, 17,150 with clubs, and 16,850 in ribbon. Her total score was 69,750.

“This competition went really well for me considering it was the first world cup of the season,” said Uchida who captured her first senior all-around championship title at the 2019 Elite Canada in February. “There were no major mistakes and I know what I have to fix for upcoming competitions. My goals coming into this competition were to deliver clean routines and perform openly and to start the world cup circuit with a good impression, so for the next competition I want to work on opening up a little more on the carpet and giving the most entertaining performance I can. I also want to work towards doing all of my programs without mistakes.”

Crane scored 63.250 overall with her highest score of 17,650 also coming with her ball routine. She scored a 16,900 in hoop, 15,050 in clubs, and 13,650 in ribbon.

“This competition went OK for me. I was really happy with hoop and ball on the first day, but unfortunately clubs and ribbon on the second day didn’t go well. Overall my routines were decent, but there is definitely still room for improvement,” said Crane who trains with Uchida out of Jusco RGC in Toronto. “For the next competition, I’ll be working a lot on clubs, which I find I’ve been struggling a bit with this year. But in general, I want to keep working on maintaining consistency over all four of my routines in competition.”

Uchida and Crane now head to Sofia, BUL for another World Cup competition next weekend, followed up by a third World Cup in Baku the weekend of April 26th. They’ll head home after that to get ready for the Canadian Championships which take place in Markham, ON from May 17th to 19th.
