Canadian athletes capture seven medals in junior and senior apparatus finals at 2019 International Gymnix

“Today was really great,” said Allaire-Bourgie who also won the junior all-around title on Saturday night, and added silver on the uneven bars and beam to her gold on floor. “Today I just came here to have fun. I took one thing at a time and tried to do the best that I could. I fought to the end – I had a couple of hiccups on beam, but I got some good results and I’m proud of myself.”

For Padurariu, Sunday’s victory on the uneven bars was redemption for a tough day in the senior team competition on Friday: “I`m glad that I was able to go out there, and have fun, and to just do what I do in training. Today was good redemption from night one.” Padurariu is the reigning world silver medallist on beam, and was the senior all-around champion at the 2019 Elite Canada competition last month in Gatineau, QC.

De Jong, who was a member of the Canadian team that took the silver medal in the team competition on Friday, was also looking for the opportunity to show what she’s capable of: “I just wanted to go in and hit my routines, and I was able to do that so I’m really happy. Vault was quite interesting – I kind of made a mistake, but I ended up on my feet, so I was happy with that. On floor, I think I did one of my best performances, so that was great.”

De Jong’s coach, Dorina Stan, was also pleased with her double medal-winning performance: “I’m really pleased with Haley’s performance. I always admire her determination and it showed in her performance tonight.”

Also winning a medal in the junior apparatus finals was Rachael Riley of Sarnia, ON who captured the bronze medal on vault.
