Black ties for third at 2019 American Cup

Black had her best performance on the uneven bars where she posted the second highest score on that apparatus – a 14.266. She tied for third on vault with Murakami with a score of 14.433; placed third on the beam with a score of 13.800, and tied for fourth with Kim Bui of Germany on floor with a score of 13.233. Murakami and Black finished the competition with a total score of 55.732.

“Overall, I’m really happy with the competition today,” said Black who also finished third at her last American Cup appearance in 2016. “My goal coming into this competition was to get back out on the international competition stage, and to use it as a stepping stone for the year to come. It was really great to share the bronze with Mai – she’s an amazing gymnast and person, and definitely an inspiration to me.”

Black wore a wrap on her knee for the competition due to hyperextending her knee slightly on Thursday: “We had to adjust the plan and give it some time to heal, but it felt much better today and I’m happy I was able to compete and have a good showing for Canada.”

Next up for Black will be an appearance at the Superstars of Gymnastics competition at the O2 in London on March 23rd, followed by a World Cup competition in Tokyo on April 7th.
