“We’re very excited to have Savina join our GymCan team,” said Ian Moss, CEO of Gymnastics Canada. “She brings a wealth of international experience to the role which will be key to the development of our senior group as they build towards their long-term objective of Olympic qualification.”
Gancheva has been the Head Coach and President of Club Etar Elite in Bulgaria since 2009. She also worked as a consultant with the Brazilian Senior National Group in 2020, the Nanjing China Senior National Group in 2019, and with the Jusco RSG Club in Toronto where she assisted with the choreographies for National Team athletes Katherine Uchida and Sophie Crane in 2018-2019.
Additionally, through her role as the Head Coach for the Spelthorne Gym in England, she prepared several gymnasts to qualify and compete at the 2004 and 2012 Olympic Games.
“I am so excited for this new position,” said Gancheva. “I can’t wait to see the gymnasts and to start working together. This is a new experience for me with new targets, and all new challenges in my life. I am confident that working together, we will have a strong and devoted group working hard to achieve success.
Gancheva will be moving to Canada in the new year where she will begin working with the senior national group at the National Team Training Centre housed at the Markham Pan Am Centre in Markham, ON.
“Our newly selected group has been training together since September and are looking forward to an exciting future with Coach Savina,” said Teresa Orr, National Team Director for Rhythmic Gymnastics at GymCan. “The groups last chance to qualify to Tokyo will be at the Senior Pan American Championships scheduled for May 13-15 in Birmingham, Alabama where the competition will be fierce between the USA, Mexico, Brazil, and Canada as only one group can be selected to represent the continent at the Olympic Games. The World Championships in October will provide another test of our progress as we build our team towards qualification to Paris in 2024.”
