Charron finished third overall at last year’s Elite Canada competition so was very pleased with her results tonight: “Today went well but I was a little bit stressed as I was worried that I wouldn’t perform my routines well. I was the most worried about beam, because in the gym, I wasn’t always that stable, but It feels very good to be the all-around champion.”
Joining Charron on the all-around podium were Tegan Shaver from Unigym in Gatineau, QC who took the silver medal (as well as gold on vault and bronze on bars), and Orlia Ngomsi from Dreams Gymnastics Academy in Edmonton, AB (who also captured gold on floor and silver on bars).
“I felt really good about today’s competition. I was confident and knew that I just had to do what I know how to do (in training),” said Shaver who finished seventh all-around in 2019. “The best thing about today’s competition was my vault because it was my first time competing it and it went really well.”
Clara Raposo of Toronto, ON dominated the first day of junior competition, finishing the day in first all-around with a total score of 51.616 including top scores on vault and beam. Maya Zonneveld of Waterloo, ON currently sits in second with a total score of 49.632, while Cassie Lee of Toronto sits in third with a total score of 49.349. The top juniors will advance to the second day of competition on Sunday starting at 9:35 am MT where their day one scores will be added to their second day scores to determine the all-around and apparatus medallists.
Sunday will also see the top seniors compete for the podium starting at 2:00 pm MT.
