WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Canada saw excellent results our athletes returned to the world stage following the significant challenges of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Canada finished 5th in the All-Around Team Finals on Sunday in Baku, with strong performances from all. For many, this was the first opportunity to return to in-person events given the continued challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic around the world.
In the Women’s Double-Mini Trampoline event, Gabriella Flynn (Shasta, BC), Hannah Brown (Shasta, BC), and Zoe Phaneuf (Calgary Gymnastics, AB) finished with a bronze medal and a total score of 102.400.
When asked to share her experience, Gabriella Flynn said “It was an amazing experience and such an exciting competition to have gone to after not going to any in person competitions in so long. I couldn’t have asked for a better team, and I can’t wait to be on the world stage again!”
“It was such a cool experience to compete with the best in the world. After almost 2 years of not competing in person, I was happy to put all my passes to my feet and taking home a medal was an added bonus,” said Zoe Phaneuf, “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to compete at my first Senior Worlds and I look forward to competing at future events.”
Hannah Brown added, “It was so exciting to compete in person again. Everyone was so supportive and I’m very grateful to have shared that experience with some really awesome teammates.”
Sarah Milette (Virtuose Centre Acrobatique, QC) and Sophiane Méthot (Virtuose Centre Acrobatique, QC) competed in Saturday’s Women’s Synchronized Trampoline Finals, finishing 4th overall with a total score of 46.610.
Sarah Milette also competed in Sunday’s Women’s Individual Trampoline Final finishing 8th overall with a total score of 50.885.
When asked about her experience at the World Championships, here is what Sarah shared, “I am very excited to have reached my first individual world championship final and to have participated in all the finals that were available to me (individual, synchro, all around, team). I will continue to work on my execution and my level of difficulty over the next few months for Elite Canada in March at my club and the World Cups of the year.”
Karen Cockburn, National Team Director for Trampoline Gymnastics at Gymnastics Canada had the opportunity to travel with the team to Baku and was very pleased with the team’s performance overall.

WORLD AGE GROUP COMPETITIONS
As the senior athletes were headed back to Canada, the 2021 World Age Group Competitions began on Thursday in Baku. Canada was represented by thirteen athletes competing in the 18-21 age category. The decision was made to send team members in this category only for this year due to the ongoing challenges with the world pandemic. Hannah Metheral (T&T Adventure, SK) competed in the Women’s Double Mini Trampoline finals, ending in 5th place with a total score of 65.300.
