In the junior women’s vault final, Padurariu scored 13.800 points to narrowly beat Victoria-Georgiana Jurca (GYM-FLY) who finished in second with a score of 13.725 followed by Charlotte Innes (Calgary Gymnastics Centre) who took home the bronze. In the beam final, Padurariu finished more than two points ahead of the competition scoring 14.675 to win the gold medal. Jillian Langille (TAISO Gymnastics Training Centre) finished in second and Chloé Lorange (Club Gymnix) rounded out the podium, finishing third.
There was no lack of excitement during the junior women’s uneven bars final with both Zoé Allaire-Bourgie (Club Gymnix) Gand Éloise Monat (Club Equilibrix) scoring 12.400 points and tying for the silver medal behind Padurariu. On the floor, Padurariu finished with a score of 13.475 ahead of Allaire-Bourgie and Lorange.
“I tried to bring confidence here in my performances and tried to perform the best that I could and I’m happy with that,” said Padurariu following competition. When asked how it felt to stand atop the podium in every junior event this weekend, Padurariu laughed; “I only try to think about my best abilities and how I performed that day and how I can improve.”
In the senior women’s competition, Padurariu’s teammate and senior all-around champion Jade Chrobok walked away with one gold and two silver medals after fantastic performances. “I think I did pretty well today, I stayed focused during my routines and surprised myself during my floor routine,” said Chrobok. “I gained a lot of confidence during this meet especially because it was the first time being a senior, so it was a different stage and I think I did pretty well.”
Chrobok tied with Megan Roberts (East York Gymnastics Club) in the floor final scoring 13.025 points to win gold, while Megan Philips (Club Gymnix) took home the bronze. Olympian Shallon Olsen (Omega Gymnastics) won gold in the vault final with a score of 14.300 while Laurie Dénommée (Viagym) took home silver and Sofia Baggio (Rideau Gymnastics) the bronze.
Competition was fierce in the beam final where Phillips narrowly won the gold scoring 13.075 over Chrobok, who scored 13.050. Olympian Rose-Kaying Woo (Gym-Richelieu) scored 12.925 and finished in third. In the uneven bars final, Jessica Dowling (Dynamo Gymnastics) scored 13.075 finish first ahead of Chrobok in second and Sophie Marois (Viagym) in third.
Padurariu and Chrobok are both coached by Elena Davydova at the Gemini Gymnastics Club. “They’re working hard as a team,” she said following the competition where the girls combined for seven gold medals. “They’re such good kids and it makes me come to the gym wanting to see them.”
