Canadian team announced for 2016 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships

The Pacific Rim Championships take place every two years with the last event being hosted in Richmond, BC in 2014. The Championships are unique in that they offer an opportunity for junior and senior aged athletes to compete together in a team format. During the Olympic year, teams may be a mix of junior and senior athletes, or they can be only seniors. This year’s Canadian team is a mixture of juniors and seniors: the rhythmic and trampoline gymnastics teams are mixed junior/senior, while the artistic gymnastics teams are all young, senior-aged gymnasts.

“This event offers an excellent opportunity for our athletes to experience a high level team competition format, and to gain valuable international competition experience,” said Cathy Haines, Chief Technical Officer at Gymnastics Canada and Head of Delegation for the event. “In the past, many of our current top senior national team athletes have honed their competitive skills at this competition in preparation for major games and World Championships.”
