Keileen Nguyen of Adagio Gymnastics Club finished in first place overall in the senior open division with a score of 44.600, just .150 points ahead of Ksenia Judeikin, who won the silver. Nguyen also took home a gold medal on ball, two silvers on hoop and clubs, and a bronze on ribbon.
Nguyen, who also advanced to compete in Sunday’s competition B, was proud of her results; “I’m really happy and excited, I worked really hard for this,” she said following competition. “I want to thank my coaches and my supporters. I have been pushing and believing in myself and it’s paid off.”
Junior open all-around champion Gracie Park also trains at Adagio Gymnastics Club and won the competition by more than a point, scoring 44.650 points to capture the gold. Park also won a gold in ribbon and silver in hoop and advanced to competition B on Sunday.
“I’m really happy that I was consistent throughout the competition and showed my best,” said Park. “I felt good with almost every routine but I liked ribbon because I’m usually best at it. Tomorrow in competition B, my goal is to show my best work and be consistent.”
Nguyen and Park train together and are supported by their coach Megan Magid, who was thrilled by this weekend’s results: “I’m in a state of shock right now,” Magid said following the award ceremony. “We wanted the girls to do their best but we didn’t have expectations of placing, we just wanted them to be consistent and feel their best coming off the carpet. Keileen and Gracie met and exceeded my expectations and I’m so proud of them!”
Christina Savchenko of Jusco Gymnastics Club in Ontario captured the gold medal in the novice all-around competition while Trillium Rhythmic took gold in the novice group competition.
In the senior high performance competition, Carmen Whelan (Aurora, ON) sits atop the standings with 63.300 points heading into competition B. Katherine Uchida (Toronto) sits second, and Athena Tsaltas (Toronto) in third.
Michel Vivier (Toronto) is currently in first place in the junior high performance competition heading into competition B on Sunday with 59.700 points. Natalie Garcia (Mississauga, ON) sits in second, and Sophie Crane (Toronto) in third.
Competition B will begin Sunday morning at 9:00 MT with the Junior individual competition. Senior competition will begin at 12:20 MT.
