Bezzoubenko finishes just shy of season best at rhythmic gymnastics World Cup in Italy

Bezzoubenko started off the competition on Friday with a 24th place finish in hoop with a score of 17.000, and 18th in the ball event with a score of 17.350. Saturday, the last day of qualifiers, saw her give her best performance in the club event to finish 17^th with a score of 17.500, followed by a 32^nd finish in the ribbon event with a score of 16.550.

Toronto’s Katherine Uchida finished 45^th in the hoop with a score of 15.900, 55^th in ball (15.150), 51^st in clubs (15.600), and 60^th in ribbon (13.800).

Bezzoubenko finished with 68.400 points overall and Uchida finished 55th of 62 competitors with 60.450 points overall.

Yana Kudryatseva of Russia placed first all-around in the qualifiers with 76.450 points, followed by Margarita Mamun of Russia (75.900), and Ganna Rizatdinova of the Ukraine, (74.550). The finals for all four events take place on Sunday.

Bezzoubenko is ramping up for the Olympic test event in Rio de Janeiro from April 16-24, 2016 where she will be looking to secure a spot at the Olympic Games this August.

Uchida will compete this upcoming weekend at the Pacific Rim Championships in Everett, USA along with several other up and coming Canadian rhythmic gymnasts.
