Gymnastics Canada statement in response to charges against Mr. Marcel Dubroy

These charges stem from historic allegations brought forward to Gymnastics Canada regarding Mr. Dubroy which were immediately reported to the police authorities. Gymnastics Canada has been actively cooperating with the Regina Police Service throughout their investigative process. In keeping with Gymnastics Canada’s complaint management protocol, Mr. Dubroy’s current suspension within Gymnastics Canada and its member associations is now extended pending the outcome of the judicial process. In addition, through a national reciprocity agreement, Mr. Dubroy’s membership is suspended nation-wide and he may not coach in any provincially-affiliated member club across Canada.

Gymnastics Canada will not comment further on this matter or any of the allegations raised until the judicial process concludes.

As the national governing body for gymnastics, we acknowledge, understand, and embrace our responsibility to take a leadership role in creating and preserving gymnastics environments that ensure positive, healthy, and fulfilling experiences for all of our participants. To that end, together with our provincial partners and member clubs, we are continuing to implement a safe sport framework across the country which includes, updated policies to better reflect participant well-being and safety; a proactive approach to complaint management with engagement from a third party professional and appropriate enforcement mechanisms for addressing individuals who breach safe sport policies; safe channels for athletes to communicate concerns with respect to their safety and well-being without risk of reprisals; and consistent educational engagement with the gymnastics community to optimize athlete welfare.

Gymnastics Canada continues to cooperate with the Regina Police Service and may implement further measures following the outcome of the judicial process.
