Jeff Thomson and Elena Davydova re-elected to Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) Technical Committees at 2021 FIG Congress

Thomson is the current Board Chair for Gymnastics Canada and Chair of Gymnastics Canada’s Men’s Artistic Judges Committee, while Davydova, a past Olympic champion in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, is a national team coach for Canada who has coached, among many, 2018 World silver medalist Ana Padurariu and 2020 Olympic Games team member Ava Stewart.

“The trust put in us by the majority of countries, to guide and direct fair and honest rules and competitions, is a trust that we will never break. The FIG has already taken many positive steps and actions to make sure that gymnasts can compete with confidence and we look forward to continue working to improve the conditions for all people who participate in gymnastics around the world. We are very proud to represent Canada in the International Gymnastics Federation and are committed to continue working towards gymnastics development worldwide” said Thomson and Davydova in a written quote from the FIG Congress.

Richard Crepin, former Board Chair of Gymnastics Canada and current Executive Committee member of the Pan American Gymnastics Union (PAGU) was supported by Gymnastics Canada to run for a FIG Council position but he was unsuccessful in his bid.  Thomson said: “Although Richard was unfortunately not elected, in a highly competitive field, we know he will continue to contribute to gymnastics both in Canada and around the world in his continued role with PAGU and the Pacific Rim Executive Board”.

As well, Gymnastics Canada is supporting a bid by Rosie MacLennan to be elected to the FIG Athletes Commission as a representative for Trampoline – the election for this position will be held during the upcoming 2021 World Trampoline Championships (November 11-14 – Baku, Azerbaijan). “It remains important for Canada to be active and represented appropriately at the international level of Gymnastics” said Ian Moss, CEO for Gymnastics Canada, “and the recent elections have been valuable in ensuring strong representation at various levels of FIG governance for North American and Pan American representatives”.
