Canadian team announced for 2016 Acrobatic Gymnastics World Age Group Competition

“Attending this competition is a great opportunity for these athletes and coaches to compete against some of the top young talent in the world in this growing gymnastics discipline,” said Cathy Haines, Chief Technical Officer for Gymnastics Canada. “Acrobatic gymnastics is a relatively young discipline in the Canadian gymnastics family, and the experiences this group brings back will be invaluable for helping it to grow in Canada.”

The World Age Group competition for acrobatic gymnastics is held every two years, and features three different age groups from 11 to 19.  Canadian gymnasts will compete in the women’s pair, mixed pair, and women’s group categories. The event directly precedes the 25th Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships held at the same venue.

“Having been a part of the Canadian delegation for the past two World Age Group competition events, I can proudly say with confidence that our country continues to improve,” said Norm Lewis, coach for Team Alberta. “I’m extremely proud to have been a part of this year’s selection process and excited to represent Canada in Putian, China in March 2016.”
