Like exceptional athletes in any sport, Bezzoubenko made it look easy, executing difficult routines in the ball, hoop, ribbon and clubs events with consistency and artistic flare.
Over two days of competition Bezzoubenko cruised to the all around gold with a total score of 86.463 points, far ahead of her closest rivals in a field of 15 finalists.
“I don’t think about my scores,” said Bezzoubenko, who came up with some of the best individual event scores of her career, only once falling below 17 points in eight routines.
“My goal here was to do all my routines cleanly and it was definitely one of my best performances.”
Carmen Whelan of Toronto won the all around silver with 74.963 points and Katherine Uchida of Toronto took the bronze with 73.738.
Whalen also picked up two silver and a bronze and Uchida added two silver medals in the apparatus finals.
Bezzoubenko, Whalen and Uchida all earned a spot on Canada’s world championship team based on results from Elite Canada and the Canadian Championships.
Bezzoubenko, Canada’s top hope to win a berth at the 2016 Olympics, competes next at a Grand Prix meet in Berlin, Germany at the end of May.
In the junior competition, Ecaterina Cozma of Toronto, last year’s runner up in the all around, moved up to win the gold with a score of 73.675 points.
Althena Tsaltas of Georgina, Ont., placed second with 72.225 points and Elizabet Belittchenko finished third with score of 64.988.
