Plans to strengthen the Rhythmic Gymnastics National Team Program towards Paris 2024 Olympic Games

OTTAWA, ON (August 6, 2020) – As training facilities slowly re-open after the COVID-19 lockdown, Gymnastics Canada (GymCan) has been making plans to solidify its commitment to the Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) national team program for the longer term. As an Olympic discipline, GymCan remains committed to building both the RG group and individual national team programs towards improved and consistent international performance, while also recognizing the importance of building the domestic base of RG athletes, coaches and officials towards sustainable club and regional high performance programming in line with the Athlete Development Model and Gold Medal Profile.

Gymnastics Canada statement in response to the criminal charges against Thierry Pellerin

OTTAWA, ON (July 3, 2020) – Gymnastics Canada (GymCan) is aware that Thierry Pellerin, a current athlete on the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics national team, was arrested yesterday for multiple alleged offences in Lévis, Quebec. The charges stem from an investigation by the Lévis Police Service. As a result, Gymnastics Canada has provisionally suspended Mr. Pellerin from active membership (including national team membership) pending the outcome of the judicial process. Through a national reciprocity agreement, Mr. Pellerin’s membership with Gymnastics Canada affiliated organizations is suspended and he may not engage in any sanctioned activities with any provincially affiliated member clubs across Canada.

Gymnastics Canada statement regarding the outcome of the Valerie Oudin/Sara Stafford discipline hearing

OTTAWA, ON (April 24, 2020) – Gymnastics Canada (GymCan) acknowledges and accepts the decision reached by an independent discipline panel on April 23rd regarding formal written complaints received by GymCan in January 2019 against two elite coaches – Ms. Valerie Oudin and Ms. Sara Stafford of Champions Gymnastics Club in Edmonton, AB. The discipline panel, chaired by Ms. Luisa Ritacca, established that Ms. Oudin and Ms. Stafford did breach the GymCan Code of Ethics and Conduct, specifically the sections that deal with conduct and harassment. The Panel further upheld the provisional suspensions put in place by GymCan and extended these suspensions until January 31, 2021 for Ms. Stafford, and until June 30, 2021 for Ms. Oudin. These suspensions cover all gymnastics-related activities and will be implemented nationally through the GymCan and provincial/territorial member association reciprocity agreement.

OTTAWA, ON (May 8, 2020) – The Gymnastics Canada (GymCan) Board of Directors recognize the significant impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on the lives and livelihood of so many in our gymnastics community across the country. While it is encouraging to see strong signs of re-opening procedures being put in place for all sectors of society, we must acknowledge that the impact of this pandemic will be felt for years to come not only in the sport of gymnastics but across our collective communities.
